Design and build quality

Both laptops are quite portable with the T14 being slightly thicker and heavier, but nothing outrageous, as both are 14-inch devices. The design is very standard and looks like every other ThinkPad, being very sophisticated and grown-up. The previous T14 used magnesium alloy for the base and carbon fiber hybrid polymer for the lid, which made it exceptionally sturdy, with almost no flex to be seen. The same materials were used on the previous T14s and we for sure hope that this remains the case.

Display

In terms of display, both devices have the same two options. Both have a size of 14 inches and the first one has a Full HD resolution and an IPS panel. This should be perfect for most people and it will be quite cheaper, so this would be the panel to go for. For the true professionals and enthusiasts, Lenovo has prepared a 4K panel, which at this size will for sure look amazing, and with the Dolby Vision support, watching movies and videos on it would be a fantastic experience.

Now, the Full HD panel option has different maximum brightness levels (250, 300, and 400 nits). The UHD display has a maximum brightness of 500 nits, which should make it very easy to read and use even outside, with the sun blasting hard.

Specifications

The CPUs on both laptops are from the 11th Gen Tiger Lake family from Intel. They go as far as the Core i7-1185G7, which comes packed with their Iris Xe Graphics G7, one of the best iGPUs that you can get right now. It even performs better than some discrete laptop graphics cards, like the MX family from NVIDIA. There is one discrete option, in the face of the GeForce MX450.

Features-wise, the processors have vPro certification, and both machines come with backlit keyboards and fingerprint readers with RFID and FIPS. Of course, we can’t forget the Red Nipple, which is always great. The T14, in particular, comes with an antimicrobial treatment for the surface, designed to get rid of the nasties and the Privacy Guard makes it so no important information can be seen from anyone but you.
