Top 5 Reasons to BUY or NOT buy the ASUS ROG GL704 (SCAR II / HERO II)!

ASUS refreshed its ROG GL704 series with the latest RTX GPUs and of course, we got one for an in-depth review in our laboratory. If you’re in a hurry, here’s a quick list of the most important pros and cons we noted.

4 reasons to buy ASUS ROG GL704 (SCAR II / HERO II)

1. Lots of upgrade options

Once you remove the bottom plate, you’ll have the chance to easily upgrade or service all of the main components. GL704’s internal storage relies on SATA slot for HDD/SSD + M.2 PCIe NVMe and the RAM can be upgraded to 32GB using the two DIMM slots.

2. 92% sRGB coverage (144 Hz AUO B173HAN04.0)

ASUS GL704 has a 144 Hz Full HD IPS screen and which is impressive in itself but that’s not all – The 17.3-inch AUO B173HAN04.0 covers 92% of the sRGB/ITU-R BT.709 gamut (web/HDTV standard) in CIE1976. It also has good color accuracy with our profiles, plus it doesn’t use PWM across all brightness levels. Great screen!

3. CPU maintains high frequencies even during extreme load

Even after 15 mins at 100% load, the CPU stays above 3.00 GHz. After 30 mins of gaming, GL704’s GeForce RTX 2070 maintains 1588 MHz @ 83°C which is 150 MHz above the maximum boost frequency.

4. Great input devices

ASUS GL704 has a great island-style keyboard with good feedback and customizable AURA RGB lighting. We don’t have any objections to the touchpad too, everything looks and works fine.

1 reason NOT to buy ASUS ROG GL704 (SCAR II / HERO II)

1. Loud noise during gaming

Like many other gaming notebooks, ROG GL704 is not very quiet. The cooling system takes great care of the internal components but doesn’t think about your sleeping roommate. Not a deal-breaker in our opinion but we still have to note it.

Competitors?

We’re very satisfied with ROG GL704 but if you’re looking for something similar, take a look at MSI GE75 Raider and MSI GT75 Titan.

The only problem with this laptop is the screen contrast is really bad. If u have any pictures with a lot of white color item in it, you won’t able to see it. This laptop will be horrible for graphic / video / designing work without a second monitor.

Unfortunately, you are right, my friend. I own it and the contrast is awful. Other than that it’s great. But I’m a creator and it’s killing me. It’s not an IPS screen its’s a “IPS grade” screen :/ Oh and the Touchpad keep on freezing in the midst of scrolling.
