Top 5 reasons to BUY or NOT to buy the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14)

Usually, Lenovo’s laptops have very good build quality, but they still aren’t seen as luxurious devices, in terms of build materials. Well, now they are swiftly trying to change that, with one of their offerings being available with an optional leather lid covering, which is soft and feels great to the touch, and a glass palm rest, which gives the laptop a very premium feel. The device in question is the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14), and not only does it look good, but it has the performance to back it up, thanks to the Tiger Lake platform from Intel.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14).

Lenovo Yoga 9i (14): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14)

1. Design and build quality

This laptop is tough as nails, and it should be considering that it has a CNC aluminum lid, which can come with an optional leather cover, giving off a more premium feel. The base is made entirely out of metal too, with the palm rest area featuring glass, which attracts too many fingerprints, so a microfiber cloth should be in your arsenal 100% of the time. The design of the laptop is also very subdued sophisticated, with only a stamped Yoga logo in the corner. Now, the weight and height are pretty manageable with the optional leather cover adding a millimeter or two to the height and around 70 grams more weight.

2. The Display

The touchscreen display on this laptop is something that we really like. The 14-inch 4K IPS unit is just superb and one of the best screens that we have tested. It has comfortable viewing angles, a very high maximum brightness of 477 nits, with a deviation of 17 percent, which is a bit on the high level, but the panel has other redeeming qualities that more than make up for that. The contrast ratio is also quite good, sitting at 1300:1. The panel covers the sRGB color gamut almost completely and even has 89% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut.

Moving over to the color accuracy, we achieved a standard-setting dE value of 1.5 when using our “Design and Gaming” profile. You can see the results of our color accuracy test with both the factory settings (left) and with our “Design and Gaming” profile applied (right).

3. The Speakers

The laptop has a speaker setup that produces very high-quality audio and has no deviations across the entire frequency range. Furthermore, they have Dolby Audio tuning.

4. The I/O and features

This laptop was the first that we ever got, which supported Thunderbolt 4 technology. The laptop has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, which are paired with one USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 2 port. The notebook uses a Type-C connector for charging, so both of the Thunderbolt ports will work. Other than that you get one 3.5 mm audio jack and a power button. On the back of the laptop, you have a dedicated stylus.

1 reason NOT to buy the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14)

1. The Upgradeability

Considering the small form factor, the upgradability is next to non-existent. All of the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard and in terms of storage upgrades, there is only one M.2 PCIe x4 drive, with which you can expand it.

Here we will also leave our teardown video, which can show you all the steps to safely access the M.2 slot.
