Acer Aspire VX 15 (VX5-591G) uses high-frequency PWM to regulate brightness

Acer Aspire VX 15 (VX5-591G) is an entry-level gaming notebook that features a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card and a processor from the latest 7th Intel Kaby Lake generation. Aspire VX 15 is equipped with a 15.6-inch IPS panel manufactured by BOE that carries the model number of NV156FHM-N42. It is an overall good display especially for an entry-level gaming notebook and while it uses PWM for regulating the brightness the frequency is quite high.

The result that our lab equipment show is very interesting. It appears that the display does not use PWM at 0% and at 100% brightness but it uses anywhere in between. At around 140 cd/m2 which we consider as a norm when working, the panel’s brightness is regulated by PWM; however the frequency used is quite high – 21.2 kHz which significantly reduces the harmful impact. To completely eliminate the negative effect you can use our custom-tailored Health-Guard profile.
