Acer’s Swift 7 notebook uses the same CHI MEI IPS panel found in the HP Spectre 13

captureAcer’s Swift 7 was announced during IFA 2016 in Berlin and still hasn’t gone on sale but luckily, we have a testing sample, which we are currently testing so we can publish the review even before it goes on sale. And just a few days ago, we received results from the lab revealing that Acer’s ultra-thin laptop sports the very same CHI MEI IPS panel found in HP’s absurdly thin Spectre 13. The model number of the panel is CMN1367 but from what we’ve gathered from our tests, clearly there are some adjustments made to the Swift 7’s panel and here’s why.

You can find the notebook here when it comes out: http://amzn.to/2dxnNpr

Firstly, the Swift 7 offers more balanced color temperature (6770K vs 7760K), higher contrast ratio (1370:1 vs 1040:1) and it’s negligibly brighter than the Spectre 13 (360 cd/m2 vs 338 cd/m2). However, the sRGB coverage of both displays differs as the Spectre 13 holds an edge over the Swift 7 by merely 5% (96% vs 91% in favor of the Spectre 13). Finally, the Swift 7 has lower color deviation than the Spectre 13 meaning that there’s definitely something going in under the hood or Acer bothered to calibrate the display for better overall image quality.\

In any case, the CHI MEI CMN1367 is an excellent 13.3-inch IPS display with properties suitable for multimedia. Stay tuned for the full review with more detailed tests, including the screen, and our custom profiles as well, which should deliver even better picture quality to the already excellent display.
