[Comparison] AORUS 17X (2021) vs AORUS 17X (2020) – what are the differences?

AORUS and GIGABYTE definitely deserve some attention, as they tend to offer powerful hardware with good designs for a more affordable price. The notebooks that we will talk about today aren’t exactly affordable, but they offer some of the best available hardware. The AORUS 17X (2021) sports the latest Tiger Lake H-based CPUs and RTX Ampere GPUs, which give it an edge in performance. We also have its predecessor, the AORUS 17X (2020), so that we can accurately assess what is new and what has stayed.

Both laptops use an identical design, which AORUS states is inspired by fighter jets and sports cars. They are both also built from a combination of plastic and metal, which can give it the necessary level of structural support. The laptops are also not portable at all, at least in our standards, as they weigh nearly 4 kilograms, and are around 40 mm thick.

Display-wise, there are some changes. While the 2020 version gave you three display options, the 2021 version omits the first two and sticks with the best one of the bunch. You get a 17.3-inch Full HD IPS display with a 300Hz refresh rate and 99% sRGB coverage.

Lastly, the specs are also improved. The older Comet Lake H CPUs and RTX 2000-series GPUs are taken out and in their place, the Tiger Lake H-based Core i9-11980HK and the RTX 3080 (Laptop, 165W) are put.
