[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1160G7 vs Core i5-1135G7 – the Core i5 wins in the CPU benchmarks but faulters when it comes to the GPU tests

The new 9W Core i7-1160G7 is the best CPU for small and lightweight laptops. The way it is able to maintain great clock speeds with such a low provisional TDP makes it one of the best CPUs when it comes to performance:power-efficiency ratio. Today we are putting it to the test against a CPU that is set to become one of the most popular processors out there: the Core i5-1135G7. As well as to test the computational performance of the chips, we will also put to the test their respective integrated graphics solutions, in order to see which will be the better choice for you.

Today we are comparing the Core i7-1160G7 against the Core i5-1135G7.

CPU benchmarks

In the 3D Rendering test, the Core i5 was the better CPU, finishing the benchmark with a 5% lead. The same story repeated itself in Adobe Photoshop, where the Core i5 again had the upper hand, although not by a lot, finishing the test, just around 0.1 seconds faster.

GPU benchmarks

Next, are the GPU benchmarks. We begin with 3DMark Fire Strike, where the 96 Execution Units version of the Iris Xe Graphics G7 completely outperformed its less powerful version, which has just 80 Execution Units, with a lead of 65%. After that, we have the two Unigine benchmarks, where we get more from the same – 93%, and 38% better performance in Unigine Heaven 4.0 and Unigine Superposition, respectively.

Conclusion

To conclude the results from above, the Core i5-1135G7 showed better results when it came to computational performance, being better in the 3D and 2D Rendering benchmarks. However, its GPU, which is a smaller version of the one in its opponent, definitely shows decreased performance, which was expected, but the power gap was just too much. If you only care about the CPU performance, go for a laptop with the Core i5 processor, as they should also be less expensive than the Core i7 models. But if you want your device to be able to handle some games, and you have the cash to spend, the Core i7-1160G7 is a fantastic choice.
