Inside Lenovo Yoga 510 – disassembly, internal photos and upgrade options
The new Lenovo Yoga 510 is as modest with its upgrade options as we thought it would and it’s kind of understandable given the starting price of the machine (around $599). Also, the disassembly was quite easy and you’d probably have problems only with the RAM chips. Here’s why…
Lenovo Yoga 510 isn’t released on the market yet, but if you are interested in other Yoga products, you can find them here: http://amzn.to/1pX9KfN
1. Removing the bottom plate
The bottom piece is made of hard plastic successfully imitating anodized aluminum finish. It gets off pretty easily by unscrewing all the bolts around the chassis.
2. RAM, battery and storage
The storage options are scarce – you have only one 2.5-inch drive, which in our case is Seagate 500GB 5400 rpm conventional HDD. There are no M.2 SSD slots to be found or an optical drive that you can swap for extra storage.
The upper left corner of the motherboard holds the Wi-Fi module manufactured by Qualcomm with a model number QCNFA435. It’s super easy to dismount it – just unscrew the bolt holding it.
The battery is rather small – rated at just 35Wh (4645 mAh) and we doubt that it will hold the whole system for any longer than a few hours with normal usage.
And here’s the tricky part – the RAM slot. It’s only one slot, but you will have to dismount a metal bracket before accessing it. There are a few clips holding the bracket, which you should gently release and then lift up the piece as shown on the photo below. Our configuration has only 4GB of RAM manufactured by Ramaxel.

Thank you man appreciate your concern. Btw did u try upgrading the sshd to ssd of like 500gb
You can upgrade to 16gb maximum.
Is that possible to change CPU like put out from a socket, or is it sticked to motherboard by manufacturer?
Hi again. It seems like the sound card is broken down for some reason (probably because of the recent heating thing) because i can’t figure out how to make the software see the hardware. it says there is no installed output device. How can i find a compatible hardware for this laptop and renew my existing sound card?
can i upgrade RAM for yoga 510 IKB??
will the new intel AC 9260 work with this laptop?
Do you have any idea about where i could find/order a new bottom plate for my Lenovo Yoga 510?
The one I have started cracking on the bottom almost as soon as I got it, and I’m afraid that handing it in for reparation will just rob me of money.
where is the ram located?? I can’t seem to find it
I could replace the keyboard?
May I add extra ram in addition to 4GB.(Is there any Extra RAM slot)
OR else I have to remove 4GB and I have to fix it with 8 or 16 GB. PLEASE HELP SYSTEM VERY SLOW WITH 4GB.
Speaking for the 14 isk model you can upgrade the main memory but you must remove the existing ram since there is only one slot available for ram. O also suggest that you install an ssd device to obtain a significant performance improvement.
Hey Batuhan. I began to experience heating(in fact only 60 degrees?) and loudy fan troubles last days. Now I can’t play games which I could play for many hours just before a few days. Maybe problem is fan cleaning, i will deal with it. But also I’m going to upgrade ram and install an ssd. Which products did you use? And do you think it’s beneficial? Mine is also Yoga 510 14 ISK.
I know, very old thread. But, can someone help me! My Yoga does not turn on anymore. No lights, not fans, nothing! I think mother board is fried. If I have to change the motherboard, why not do an upgrade? I wish to know what is the latest compatible motherboard I can find to replace my old one? Lenovo Yoga 510-14ISK 80S7
Thanks and Cheers!
Just to follow up. I ended up replacing the System board. Now everything is back to normal except for the left USB port on the IO board. Nothing happens when inserting a USB device. I feel like there is no power. How ever, the SD card works as well as the Headphone jack! The cable is ok. How can I diagnostic this issue? Thanks!
