[Specs and Info] Can the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″) be an affordable “creator” device

The land of “Creator” laptops is an interesting one. Most of the laptops here cost an enormous amount of money, and there are too few options for aspiring artists and designers Here we have an interesting offer from Lenovo, in the face of the IdeaPad 5 Pro.

The IdeaPad series offers inexpensive everyday devices that pack with them a decent amount of power but have always lacked when it came to things such as display quality, which is crucial for creators. Lenovo seems to have seen that and introduced the Pro series, which offers several high-resolution displays with high color coverage, which are perfect for a creator. They should also be fairly affordable, so you don’t have to splurge big, especially if you’re just starting out.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″).

Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″): Full Specs

Design

The design of this laptop uses premium materials for the entire body. Here, the material of choice is aluminum. The laptop looks pretty good with its sharp edges and rounded corners. The edges have a glossy machined aluminum finish, while the lid and base have a matte, anodized coating, which actually prevents smudges and fingerprints. Branding is kept to the absolute minimum, with only a small Lenovo logo, embossed onto the upper left corner of the lid and the bottom right corner of the base. In terms of weight and height, the laptop’s weight differs, in case you purchase it with discrete or integrated graphics. With the iGPU, the laptop stops the scales at 1.38 kg, while with the discrete GPU, it weighs 1.41 kg. In both variants, the profile stands at 15.99-17.99 mm.

Display

The laptop offers two display choices, which both have a 14-inch diagonal, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and use IPS panels. The first display has a 2.2K resolution, a max brightness of 300 nits, a 1500:1 contrast ratio, a 60Hz refresh rate, and fully covers the sRGB color gamut. The second display ups the resolution, max brightness, and refresh rate to 2.8K, 400 nits, and 90Hz, respectively. It also covers the sRGB gamut fully and has a 1500:1 contrast ratio. Both panels should be good for color-sensitive work, but we would still have to test them ourselves in order to assess the uniformity of the panel and the color accuracy, which are crucial for a display to be deemed suitable for color-sensitive work.

Specifications and features

We really like the specs on this laptop. While they won’t set any records, in terms of benchmark scores, due to their power-efficient nature, they should offer a good level of performance. The laptop comes powered by two Ryzen 5000 U-series chips from AMD, with the offered processors actually being Zen 3-based units, making them an even more tempting offer. The new architecture is said to increase both the performance and power efficiency of the chips, which is great for a laptop, making it lighter thinner, and increasing the battery life. For the graphics, you get to pick between the iGPU units inside the processors, as well as the discrete MX450 from NVIDIA.

The laptop has a decently wide I/O, which consists of two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1), one of which is always on, so you can charge your phone or another device, and an SD card slot, which are found on the right. Then on the left, we have two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2), an HDMI 1.4b connector, and an audio jack. You also get a set of front-firing stereo speakers, which have Dolby Audio support.
