[Specs and Info] MSI updates its GP66 Leopard and GP76 Leopard with Tiger Lake H

MSI is an interesting company. What started in 1986 as a motherboard and GPU manufacturer, has now evolved into a company with a diverse portfolio of devices. That’s not to say that they have moved away from their roots, as they still offer PC hardware, both standard, and gaming-oriented. The GP66 and GP76 Leopard are versatile devices that are gamer-y in nature, but as you might know, gaming hardware can serve a variety of purposes. That is why MSI is also marketing the laptops to developers and engineers, who need computing power in their daily workflow.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the updated MSI GP66 and GP76 Leopard.

Design

As this looks to be only a hardware refresh, without any significant design changes, the laptops’ design is very similar to the previous GP66 and GP76 Leopard. This means an aluminum base and lid, which make it sturdy and rigid. The design reminds us of a sports car, with an aggressive rear end and a stylish front. We get bulging heat vents on the back and an angular lid and base, with sharp edges and rounded corners. The weight and height also remain the same between the two devices and their respective predecessors.

Display

Thе GP66 Leopard comes with two 15.6-inch IPS displays. The first one has a Full HD resolution and a refresh rate of 165Hz. The second display bumps both the resolution and the refresh rate to QHD and 240Hz respectively. The GP76 Leopard offers the same displays, which just have a larger 17.3-inch diagonal.

Specifications and features

The laptop is available with several processors from the 11th Gen Tiger Lake H-series, which start from the Core i5-11400H and can go as high as the Core i7-11800H. The CPUs offer tremendous single-core performance, which is great for software development and data science, as well as CAD programs. There are two graphics cards to pick from, both members of the Ampere RTX 3000-series. The entry configuration is equipped with the RTX 3060 (Laptop) with the RTX 3070 also being available.

The laptops are packed with features, including a Steelseries keyboard with a per-key RGB backlight, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5 support. A stereo speaker setup provided by Nahimic Audio, another Steelseries subsidiary, is also present, with the speaker grills being visible on the base of the device, making it a front-firing setup.
