Design

In terms of the design, the laptops reuse the same body as last year’s notebooks. It is built entirely from plastic and has a glossy finish. The device makes use of some angular body lines, in order to make itself look more interesting. The lid and base have an octagonal shape and it looks pretty good. In the previous generation, while plastic felt cheap, the device didn’t, as the lid opened easily with one hand, and there was minimax flexing both in the lid and the base. The Shadow Black color can fit with whatever wallpaper or keyboard backlight you choose, so the laptop will look great with everything. The devices are also identical when it comes to weight and height, both stopping the scales at 2.25 kg and being 24.2 mm tall.

Display

When it comes to the displays, both laptops get identical units with a diagonal of 15.6 inches, a Full HD resolution, which all use an IPS panel. The first display has a 60Hz refresh rate, a contrast ratio of 800:1, and a max brightness of 250 nits. The second panel has pretty much the same qualities as the first but ups the refresh rate to 120Hz. The last panel is clearly the best, as it has a 165Hz refresh rate, a 300 nit max brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, but most importantly, covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. This makes it perfect for designers, and people who generally value good color reproduction.

Specifications and features

Lastly, you have to choose between AMD and Intel. On the Red side, you can pick either the Ryzen 5 5600H or the Ryzen 7 5800H. Both CPUs have a satisfying number of cores, threads, have decently high clock speeds, so they should be able to handle intense workloads. On the Intel side, you can choose between the Core i5-11300H or the Core i7-11370H. Both of these CPUs have a 4-core / 8-thread layout but have higher clock speeds. HERE is a comparison between the Core i7-11370H and the Ryzen 7 5800H. For the graphics, there are a total of four GPUs to choose from. You start off with the GTX 1650, after that, you have the RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti, with the RTX 3060 being the final GPU.

This wouldn’t be a gaming laptop without a backlit keyboard. In the more budget configurations, you get a white backlight, but you can upgrade to an RGB one. You would also be pleased to hear that the keyboard used is the same unit as the one in the Legion 5 lineup, which prides itself on a relatively long key travel and clicky feedback. It also has decently large keycaps.
