Design

The designs are what you would expect from this price tag. Plastic is the predominant material, and a tad of metal for the lid, if we’re lucky. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the laptop has to suffer from the poor build quality. Many plastics nowadays are thick and sturdy, so the device doesn’t feel cheap at all. There is also a neat implementation of a feature similar to ASUS’ ErgoLift, which lifts up the base when the lid is opened, to provide more breathing room for the cooling.

The designs are also on par for 2021, with thin bezels all around and minimal branding. The Dell logo is only visible on the center of the lid. Both laptops are quite portable with even the Inspiron 15 not being that heavy, considering its 15.6-inch form factor. The Inspiron 14 weighs 1.46 kg which is on the heavier side, but still quite manageable. The Inspiron 15 is a bit heavier, weighing in at 1.63 kg. Both laptops share an identical height of 17.9 mm.

Display

The panels on both laptops have identical specifications, except for the size of the diagonal, which on the Inspiron 14 sits at 14 inches, while the Inspiron 15 gets a bigger 15.6-inch diagonal. The displays both have a Full HD resolution and an IPS panel. You should expect comfortable viewing angles and ample amounts of brightness. While the color reproduction may not be at a very high level, we are talking about budget business laptops and general use should be the key factor here.

Specifications and features

The specs on both laptops are identical, with them both featuring three distinctive Tiger Lake CPUs to choose from. The base models come with the Core i3-1115G4, which has two cores and four threads. After that, you get the Core i5-11300H and if that is not enough, there is the best option of the Core i7-11375H for the Inspiron 14 and the Core i7-11370H for the Inspiron 15. All of them come with the Iris Xe Graphics, which are the best iGPUs on the market. If you fancy discrete GPUs more, Dell has you covered. The MX450 from NVIDIA is ready to answer the call and provide the necessary performance.

In terms of I/O, the laptops are very similar. Both of them come with a total of three USB ports (one Type-C 3.2 Gen.2 and two Type-A 3.2 Gen.1), an HDMI connector, and the mandatory 3.5 mm audio jack. The Inspiron 14 has an additional MicroSD card slot. Both devices support Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 and come with Dual-Array microphones and stereo speakers.
