GSmart Essence – new super cheap quad-core candidate for the position of your (kid’s) everyday smartphone

After we introduced you to the the ultra-affordable GSmart Classic 5 yesterday, we now got hold of some information regarding an even more “budget” project in the works over at Gigabyte. Its name will be Essence 4.5, but it’s being developed under the codename “Project ULC 4.5”.

GSmart Essence 4.5 features a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, 4.5-inch IPS display and a 5MP camera. The screen resolution is 854 x 480 pixels, but the less large diagonal makes it “Retina” when viewed at a distance of over 41 cm, so you won’t be able to see pixels that easily. It has 512MB RAM and 8GB of storage, but you can expand it up to 40GB (8+32) with a microSD card. Essence 4.5 has two SIM slots, a 2MP “selfie” camera and runs Android 4.4 KitKat (no word on a Lollipop update yet).

GSmart Essence 4.5 has one more interesting “feature” – its price. It will available for just ~$75 and GSmart will try to have it ready for the Back-to-School season. It will come in Black, White and Gold options.
