NVIDIA GeForce 930M vs GeForce 940M – benchmarks and gaming tests

Today we are going to compare the overall performance of two GPUs from NVIDIA that are part of the Maxwell generation and are commonly used in entry-level notebooks for multimedia and light gaming. Interestingly, last year NVIDIA didn’t release a GeForce 830M GPU, but this year we’ve got a direct successor of the 840M (940M) going head to head with the 930M.
Both GPUs have a lot in common – they are based on last year’s the 840M graphics card and even sharing the same GPU inside (GM108). Also, we’ve got the same amount of ROPs and shading units (CUDA cores). The most notable difference, however, is the higher memory speed and higher base and boost clock of the GPU. You can see the differences on the table below.
| GeForce 930M | GeForce 940M | |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | GM108 | GM108 |
| GPU frequency | 928MHz (941MHz Boost) | 1072MHz (1176MHz Boost) |
| Memory | 2GB | 4GB |
| Memory frequency | 1800MHz | 2000MHz |
| Memory type | DDR3 | DDR3 |
| Memory bus width | 64-bit | 64-bit |
| TMUs | 24 | 16 |
| ROPs | 8 | 8 |
| Shading units | 384 | 384 |
| Power consumption (TDP) | 25W | 33W |
