Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 (15.0) review – decent package of features and performance but it’s too expensive for what it is
When you hear about Microsoft, perhaps the first thing that comes to mind is Windows. The software giant is well-known for its popular OS and for the last few years, the company is offering its own devices to the market.
In this article, we’re going to test the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 (15.0″) and we’ll inspect its performance and features. The device is thin and light and perhaps Microsoft is trying to challenge Apple in this regard but this will be a hard task for the Redmond company.
We have a review of the 13.5-inch version of the notebook and the bigger sibling isn’t that different in terms of hardware and extras. However, the manufacturer is using the Alder Lake platform for this notebook which is kind of a meh decision for such an expensive laptop. Don’t get us wrong, the 12th Gen Intel chips are still fast but the new Raptor Lake CPUs sound like a logical choice in this price category.
On the other hand, this notebook boasts a 15-inch touchscreen display with a 3:2 aspect ratio which is very comfortable for work and even for content creation, when you want to draw something on the screen. The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 (15.0″) looks like a device that is meant for (wealthy) people who like thin and light devices with a stylish design. Performance is also very important and we will check this in the next few minutes.

Good review. Well explained pros and cons. I just want to suggest that people who want this laptop, should buy it when it’s on sale, since prices tend to go down up to 50%. I’ve bought mine last September for only €799. It was down from €1599. Surface Laptop 4, i7-1065G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Screen, speakers and touchpad are great, keyboard is ok, connectivity is very limiting (I use USB-C dock with mine), but the most annoying part is when the screen is fully opened (170 degrees I think), it creaks quite a bit.
