[Specs and Info] Huawei MateBook D 16 – Productivity to the core
If you fancy the MateBook 16s but want a more affordable offering, Huawei offers the MateBook D 16. It’s still got the same powerful hardware, but a slightly worse screen with a lower resolution that’s still good for Creator work. Other than that, you’re still getting a complete package that can be used to do a lot of work, while providing a lot of features both for business and just for a better user experience.
Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the Huawei MateBook D 16.
Huawei MateBook D 16: Full Specs
Design
Once again, the MateBook is crafted out of metal, giving you a cool-to-the-touch feeling. The laptop comes with two color options: Space Grey and Metallic Silver. The design is overall simpler when compared to the MateBook 16s, foregoing the front-firing speakers, but still bringing a fingerprint reader. You are compensated well for the speakers, since the keyboard comes with a NumPad, in addition to the backlight. If you look at the edge of the base, you’ll see four dots, which house a quad-array microphone. The positioning is great as well, picking up your speech directly. The speakers are mounted on the bottom, but since you’ll most likely use the laptop on a steady surface, the sound will just reflect and find its way back to your ears pretty easily. In terms of weight and height, the laptop stops the scales at just 1.70 kg and has a profile of 18.4 mm.

The port selection of the device includes one USB Type-A 2.0 port, which we advise to leave for peripherals, one more Type-A port, this time at 3.2 (Gen. 1) speeds, two USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. One of the Type-C ports is used for charging, it’s marked by a battery indicator, while the other one is an all-purpose port, so it can act as a DisplayPort.

Display
The display of the MateBook has a 16:10 aspect ratio, so a 16-inch screen can fit in the chassis of a 15.6-inch display. This also makes the bezels smaller, so you’re killing two birds with one stone. It uses an IPS panel with a Full HD+ resolution, 300 nits of peak brightness, a 1200:1 contrast ratio, and 100% sRGB coverage, so any type of professional color work can be done.

Specifications and features
The laptop is offered with three Alder Lake H-series processors. The base configuration has the Core i5-12450H, with 8 cores and 12 threads. You can upgrade to a Core i5-12500H, which has 4 extra Efficiency cores. It’s generally our recommendation for an affordable powerhouse, as it matches AMD and its Ryzen CPUs, even the supposedly higher-end Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 SKUs. If you want to go all out, there’s the Core i7-12700H, a beastly CPU that defeated everything there was to defeat in 2022. There are integrated graphics inside all three CPUs, which can help you if you’re a video editor, and since the resolution of the display is FHD+ you can also do a little bit of gaming, as esports titles like League of Legends or CS:GO will run smoothly.
