Acer Swift 5 took LG Gram’s crown for the lightest 15-inch laptop

Breaking news! Acer has just announced the Swift 5 15 at their annual Next@Acer event dethroning the ultra-portable LG Gram from its position as the world’s lightest 15-inch laptop.

According to Jerry Hou, General Manager, Consumer Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer Inc., “there’s been great feedback on Acer’s amazingly light 14-inch Swift 5″, therefore the Taiwanese company is “now pushing the limits with the 15.6-inch model”. The latest addition to the Swift family is targeted at users who value great portability, solid performance, and an elegant look.

Under its hood, the Swift 5 15 can be equipped with an 8th-gen Kaby Lake-R ULV processor paired with up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and 1TB SSD storage. In addition, the connectivity options include one USB 3.1 Type-C port, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, an HDMI port, full-sized SD card reader, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack. In order to ensure your security, Acer Swift 5 offers a Windows Hello-compatible fingerprint reader and an IR camera for faster and easier login.

In terms of design, Acer uses premium materials such as magnesium-lithium alloys for the top and bottom cover, and magnesium-aluminum alloy to add extra sturdiness on the palm rest area. In addition, the notebook’s sleek chassis tips the scale at less than 1 kg (2.2 lbs) so Swift 5 is undoubtedly the perfect solution for work on the go. As for the display, the 15.6-inch Full HD IPS screen features ultra-narrow bezels of just 5.87 mm providing the overwhelming 87.6% screen-to-body ratio.

Although the model on display at the event was just a prototype, we do not expect the final product to alter much.
