[Comparison] AMD Ryzen 5 4500U vs Ryzen 5 3550H – the younger Ryzen is almost 50% faster despite the lower TDP

AMD’s line of processors Ryzen has been the hot new thing in the CPU world for the last few years. Since their release, the Ryzen line has been highly regarded and it has been praised for its performance. In this comparison, we have the recently released Ryzen 5 4500U versus last year’s Ryzen 5 3550H.

It is important to note that the new one is an energy-efficient model with 15W TDP while the consumption of the older is 35W. In other words, 4500U could be integrated into slimmer and more portable notebooks.

Specifications

There are two key differences between the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U and the Ryzen 5 3550H. The first one is that the newer Ryzen 5 4500U has double the cache – 8MBs, compared to the older one which has just 4MBs. This increase should in turn lead to better performance in many applications. The second key difference, as we mentioned above, is that the 3550H requires a much more powerful cooling system as its TDP is rated at 35W.
