4 reasons to BUY the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 (14″, 2022)

    1. Input devices

Despite having a slim profile that clocks in at just 17.8 mm, the IdeaPad offers a comfortable keyboard with good key travel and clicky feedback, so typing feels great. It’s also backlit, so nighttime typing is covered. The touchpad is a similar story, with a large surface and a Mylar cover, which provides the necessary smoothness and gliding. The responsiveness is blazing fast as well, which only strengthens the appeal of the laptop.

    2. I/O

The port selection is pretty full for a 14-inch laptop, using two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, an SD card reader, an audio jack, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, an HDMI 1.4b port, and the power plug.

    3. Battery life

With a 52.5Wh battery and an efficient Ryzen 5 CPU, the laptop lasts for 13 hours and 9 minutes of Web browsing, or 13 hours and 20 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

    4. Cooling

There’s a pretty generous cooling solution, with two thick heat pipes and a large fan. Together, they manage to keep the Ryzen 5 5500U well-performing and running cool.

    Max CPU load

Compared to other laptops with the same processor, this is the best-performing one, reaching high wattages and clock speeds. This does mean high temperatures, however, as you can see from the image below.

    Comfort during full load

The laptop isn’t very well insulated in terms of heat, with the base reaching 48.8°C. On the other hand, there’s next to no noise from the fan, which due to its sheer size, doesn’t have to spin as fast.

1 reason NOT to buy the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 (14″, 2022)

    1. Upgradeability

Lastly, the upgradeability struggles, with there being only one M.2 slot for storage. All of the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, going as high as 16GB of LPDDR4x memory working in dual-channel mode.

Here is our teardown video, which shows how to access the insides of the IdeaPad Flex 5.
