MSI’s Prestige laptops are some of their best. Last year, we had the Prestige 15 in for a review and we were very surprised by its ability to harness the Core i7-1280P bringing an insane level of performance that rivaled and even exceeded what AMD could offer at the time with its 6000H-series. Now we have the Prestige 16, which is outfitted with the same CPU and GPU combo as the Prestige 15 but brings a bigger 16-inch display with a taller 16:10 aspect ratio.

Design

The design of the Prestige 16 is something sleek and modern, with a fully metallic chassis that’s got both simple and more aggressive shapes. The front is more subdued, with a flat base and lid, sharp edges, and rounded corners. The back is slightly more aggressive, with chopped-off back edges, that give it a hexagonal appearance. The lid has a glossy MSI logo. In terms of dimensions, the laptop weighs 2.10 kg and has a profile of 16.85 mm, which is quite thin.

Looking at the sides, the port selection includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

There’s not much of a display selection for the Prestige 16, with MSI giving you only one option. The display has a QHD+ IPS panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. It’s a MiniLED display that reaches 1000 nits of brightness, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, and TrueColor calibration, so colors look exceptional out of the box.

Specifications and features

The 14-core Core i7-1280P is a fantastic CPU that’s incredibly powerful. While it can’t quite reach the H-series, you have to factor in that it was created to suit more portable laptops, thus needing less cooling to do well. In terms of graphics, the RTX 3050 Ti is enough to speed up your Creator workload, while giving you the option to game on it when you want to.
