First impressions of ASUS ZenFone Selfie – the DREAM for all the selfie fans

We’ve been playing around with the ASUS ZenFone Selfie for some time now and it’s time to put it through our tests. You can expect the results from them in our upcoming in-depth review of the model. As usual, we want to give you our initial thoughts on device’s appearance, specs, features, and capabilities.

The first thing that popped in our heads, when we saw the ZenFone Selfie, was that this is surprisingly big phone. Yes, it has a 5.5-inch display and alone is enough to expect a big size, but it seems like there is a lot of unused space above and below the display. However, considering the 13MP front-facing camera with double LED flash, we can say that it is somehow reasonable.

By looking at the specs sheet, we noticed that the thickness is listed as 10.8 mm, which considering today’s standards is a bit high, but in reality the phone doesn’t feel that thick at all. Due to the curved sides on the back makes it feel a lot thinner. Actually, this is the reason why you won’t find any buttons on the sides of the device. Much like LG’s models, the volume rocker keys are located at the back of the device, while the Power button is at the top. At first, reaching it could prove to be a bit of a difficulty, but in time you will get the hang of it. Anyway, the device features a polycarbonate housing and a removable back cover. The two SIM card slots, as well as the microSD memory card slot, are located beneath the back, so in order to insert any of them, you must remove it.

Usually, the Snapdragon 615 SoC is characterized not only by having high performance, but also with slightly higher outer temperatures. Nonetheless, we didn’t detect any of that in the short time we used the device. We are going to run our temperatures test and see if the phone tends to overheat. You will be able to view the results in our temperatures article, as well as the device’s review.

It would hardly come as a surprise to anybody, when we say that the main accent of the smartphone are its cameras. The interesting thing about them is that they are both 13MP, but the rear unit has laser autofocus, Still, the front-facing sensor steals the show for every selfie fan. Aside from being capable of taking high quality photos, there are a lot of settings, modes and features in the menu. Both, the front, and the rear cameras, have 17 shooting modes, among which are panorama shot, HDR, slow motion video recording and many others.

Software-wise things look good too or at least it will look good to the users who love pre-installed software. As you boot the device for the first time, you get 67 pre-installed applications. In our review, we are going to take a deeper look at some of the most interesting ones. The UI doesn’t lack features such as power saving mode, kids mode, one hand mode etc. We can say for sure that this device will keep you entertained, or occupied, for quite some time.
