How to open Dell G16 7630 – disassembly and upgrade options

First, undo the 10 Phillips-head screws located on the bottom of the laptop.
Next, lift the bottom panel away from the laptop’s chassis.
Note: If you plan to access the cooling solution, you need to undo two additional Phillips-head screws on the inside of the laptop, and four located on the back of the device.

Caution: Be gentle to avoid damaging the internal components.

2. Removing the Battery

Locate the 86Wh battery pack. To remove it, first unplug the battery connector.
Then, undo the 7 Phillips-head screws that secure the battery to the device.

Upgrading the RAM

The laptop contains two SODIMM slots that are compatible with DDR5 RAM.
Note: The Dell G16 7630 supports up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM.

3. Upgrading the Storage

The laptop has two M.2 PCIe x4 slots. One slot fits 30mm drives, while the other fits 80mm drives. They both are compatible with Gen 4 SSDs.

4. Continuing the Disassembly

First, remove the Wi-Fi card. After this, unplug all connectors from the motherboard.
Remove the USB Type-C metal bracket.
Proceed to undo the 8 Phillips-head screws that secure the motherboard, the two daughterboards, and the fans to the chassis.

5. Inspecting the Cooling System

Once you’ve completed the above steps, you should be able to observe the cooling system. The laptop uses two heat pipes shared between the CPU and the GPU, with an additional heat pipe allocated to each of them.
A total of four heat sinks and two fans help manage heat dissipation. In addition, a vapor chamber assists with the cooling process.
