HP Pavilion 15 (15-cs2000) has a surprisingly good display

The HP Pavilion 15 (15-cs2000) is a stylish laptop that can be configured with Intel Whiskey Lake and AMD Zen+ CPUs. You can also pick it with a dedicated GPU like the NVIDIA GeForce MX250. The design of this notebook is modern and between the thin bezels is fitted a great IPS panel – Innolux N156HCE-EN1 (CMN15E8).  This is an optional display but we can highly recommend it and we will explain why we like it so much in the next sentences.

This is a 15″ display with a Full HD resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. That means a pixel density of 142 ppi, and a pitch of 0.18 х 0.18 mm. The screen has very good viewing angles (with almost no visible color shift if you’re laid back on your chair while using the laptop)  and more than a decent contrast ratio of 1230:1 (1120:1 after profiling). The sRGB color coverage is a rich one – 94% – providing pleasant and vivid colors. No matter what you’re doing in front of the display, you can enjoy good color reproduction while browsing the Web or watching some movies.

The maximum measured brightness is good – 343 nits (cd/m2) in the middle of the screen and 308 nits (cd/m2) average across the surface with a maximum deviation of 17%.

The real deal is the color accuracy of the panel. Even without calibration, the CMN15E8 is able to show an average dE value of 2.9 which isn’t bad at all – most panels can’t touch this result even after calibration. We consider everything above 4.0 as a mediocre result. Things are getting interesting after we have applied our Design & Gaming profile because after that the panel can show some really accurate colors with an average dE of 0.7. Yes, this is among the best results so far.

If you value color accuracy, this panel will surely suit you well. Its standard matching color representation is perfect for design work, as well as online retail, like buying paint or Web page themes.

You can have a look at the quality of the viewing angles in the provided image down below.

A quick summarize –  Innolux N156HCE-EN1 (CMN15E8) is a superb panel. Yes, this is an optional display but you can count it as “money well spent” because the other two display variants are TN ones – believe us, you’re not going to like them. This one covers 94% of the sRGB gamut, it has a very good contrast ratio, comfortable viewing angles, and great average dE value after applying our Design & Gaming profile – 0.7. All of this means a punchy image, as well as an accurate representation of colors – something designers, photographers, and other professionals highly value.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.
