Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 5th Gen (2020) vs X1 Yoga 4th Gen (2019) – what’s new?
Lenovo announced the 5th Gen ThinkPad X1 Yoga notebooks alongside ThinkPad X1 Carbon 8th Gen. The Yoga devices are very popular because of their duality – you can use them as a standard laptop but with one flip move they can be transformed into a tablet or you can enjoy them in “tent” mode. Well, the new 5th Gen is here, let’s see what are the differences between the new one and the current 4th Gen Yoga’s.
First of all, the X1 Yoga 5th Gen has a lot of similar specs with ThinkPad X1 Carbon 8th Gen. They both share the same chassis.

Keyboard – UC function on board
The new keyboard has dedicated keycaps for VoIP (UC function) – for example, you can call someone through Skype with a touch of a button. The keyboard still uses a scissor mechanism as the 4th Gen Yoga’s and it has a backlight.

Display – optional 4K panel
The new 1080p display option with 500 nits max brightness will be available for the X1 Yoga 5th too. The PrivacyGuard screen filter will protect you from “curious people” thanks to its narrow viewing angles. The high-end display option is a 4K panel (500 nits) with Dolby Vision support and 10-bit color.

Hardware: 10th Gen ULV processors
The ThinkPad X1 Yoga 5th Gen relies on Intel Comet Lake-U and UHD 620 graphics. The top model, the i7-10710U with 6 cores and 12 threads will be available too.
Other features: up to 2TB PCIe SSD and 802.11ax Wi-Fi
The weight remains the same – 1.3kg, as well as the battery unit capacity – 51Wh. The RAM will be soldered again, the maximum size is 16GB LPDDR3. The max storage capacity is up to 2TB PCIe SSD. The good news is that the 802.11ax Wi-Fi module will be on board. The standard ThinkPad pen will be included in the retail box and you can buy more advanced pens additionally.
