Apple MacBook Pro (14-inch, M3) Review – Nearing Perfection but we Have Some Remarks

The new Apple MacBook Pro (14-inch, M3) brings to the table the M3 SoC with a 3nm process. Probably this is just enough for the die-hard fans of the brand to purchase the up-to-date device.

For this review, we bought a bone-stock version of the laptop with a 512GB SSD and 8GB of unified memory. The latter could be the biggest limitation factor for power users or content creators. Interestingly, Apple states that their “magical” 8GB memory equals 16GB of regular RAM. We opened ten Web browsing tabs and immediately 7GB of system memory was already in use (as well as some 300-400MB as a swap file on the SSD). This means the base RAM configuration is fine for normal casual daily usage such as watching videos, social media, and Web browsing. If you are a professional who often uses software like DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Lightroom, or maybe Final Cut Pro, the 16GB or the 24GB versions of this notebook are a much better choice.

Aside from that, the CPU with its 4P and 4E cores alongside the 10-core GPU should offer better performance in any kind of usage compared to the M2 siblings. Thanks to the more refined tech process, the battery life should be great, at least on paper. The glossy Mini-LED display is very bright and it comes with a 120Hz refresh rate for extra smoothness.

What’s in the box?

Inside the box, you can find the laptop itself and a 70W USB-C Power Adapter.

You also have the option to get the 96W version of the charger. However, we don’t recommend it unless you’re someone who frequently drains their battery to 0% and then needs to quickly charge it to full capacity due to an urgent need to go somewhere. Fast charging can be harmful to the battery’s longevity. Also, please try to avoid letting the charge fall below 20% unless it’s an emergency.
