Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 4 review – business in style

Temperatures and comfort, Battery Life

Max CPU load

In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

For some reason, despite the two heat pipes, Lenovo keeps this notebook’s performance in short loads limited. Its 2.55 GHz on the P-cores is quite contrasty to the 3.28 GHz on the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 4. Indeed, the picture mellows down towards the end of the test, and the ThinkBook 14 Gen 4 actually posts lower temperatures.

Comfort during full load

Thanks to this, the keyboard of the device doesn’t get too hot. We have to give it to Lenovo for insulating the internals from the keyboard good enough because we’ve seen hot surfaces even at lower internal temperatures. As far as fan noise goes, the device doesn’t get too loud either, perhaps explaining the low clocks in short loads.

Battery

Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. Our configuration is equipped with a 45Wh battery pack. It got us through 5 hours and 33 minutes of Web browsing, or 5 hours and 38 minutes of video playback.
