In order to keep things spicy, we have come up with another worthy rival to our gold medalist AMD Ryzen 7 2700 and this is the first addition to the 8th gen Intel Core i9 family which goes under the name Core i9-8950HK.

Specs overview

Starting off with Ryzen 7 2700, the chip is based on AMD’s new 12 nm Zen+ architecture with a total of 4 cores 8 cores and can execute up to 16 threads simultaneously thanks to Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT). Furthermore, it ticks at a base frequency of 3.2 GHz that can go up to 4.1 GHz. The specs sheet is complemented by 16MB of L3 Cache, support for up to a dual-channel DDR4 memory controller, as well as TDP rated at 65 W.

Moving on, the Core i9-8950HK is based on the Coffee Lake architecture with a total of 6 cores. Utilized through a 14 nm manufacturing process, the chip supports the HyperThreading technology that allows it to execute 12 sets of instructions simultaneously. Benchmarks

Now let’s see how the two opponents perform in our benchmark tests. When it comes to 3D rendering (tested with Cinebench 15), AMD Ryzen 7 2700 manages to surpass its rival with around 11%. However, tables turn in our Photoshop benchmark test where Intel Core i9-8950HK is 50% faster than its opponent.
