Quick look at Meizu m3 note – first impressions, camera, performance

A little over a week ago we acquainted you with the Meizu M3 Note in a short preview article. This is a mid-range model which has many features that stand out. It is namely for this reason that we chose to discuss this device and put it to our standard tests as well as write a detailed review on it. Before all that, however, we’ve prepared a publcation with our first impressions of this model for the more impatient group of our readers.

Meizu M3 Note offers a design which is not typical for this class. It is rather elegant and features an aluminum unibody construction as well as a slightly curved (along its edges) 2.5D glass and 8.2mm thick profile. Additionally, the roudned form contributes to a better grip but the surface is somewhat slippery and there is the chance of accidentally dropping the device. Fingerprints, on the other hand, are difficult to notice. Another noteworthy moment is the hardware Home button, which if you touch, takes you one step back, and if you press, it takes you to the homescreen. Apart from all this, it has a fingerprint scanner built into it.

Meizu M3 Note comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080 p). Despite the big screen, this translates into image detail of 403 ppi (pixel density). The panel type is IPS which ensures better color reproduction. What’s more, you can adjust the color temperature by manipulating some of the settings.

Additionally, the smartphone uses an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 which has four Cortex-A53 cores, ticking at 1.8GHz and another four Cortex-A53 (1.0GHz). We have yet to test the performance of the mobile chip. For now we can display its results in the Geekbench 3 (on the left) and 3DMark Ice Unlimited (on the right) benchmarks.

The model runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is accompanied by the Flyme Meizu interface. The latter brings many changes when compared to the traditional Android experience, one of them being the lack of an app drawer. Furthermore, the settings menu carries a good number of additional features such as gesture control, a SmartTouch virtual button with many functions, a simplified operational mode, and others. Of course, we shall take a closer look at the smartphone’s capabilities in our upcoming detailed review.

The main camera is 13MP and is accompanied by a dual LED flash, and we have included some test shots below for the purpose of quality evauluation. Also present are a number of various modes such as the GIF or the Macro modes. Amateur photographers can use the manual mode, which allows them to adjust some settings such as shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and others. You can also record Full HD or slow-mo videos.
