Blizzard remasters the all-time classic Starcraft – HD resolution, same old gameplay

That’s right folks, you read it right – Blizzard officially unveiled Starcraft: Remastered – a game that many have dreamed of. The company promises that it will keep the same old game mechanics while enhancing the resolution of the models and making the game suitable for up to 4K gaming.

I’m not sure if there is a need of introduction. I doubt that there is anyone who hasn’t played or at least heard of Starcraft. This is one of the most epic RTS games to date and it revolutionized the genre back in the day. I myself am too young to remember when it originally released back in 1998 but I belong to the generation that grew up with Starcraft and the other Blizzard titles. Starcraft redefined the RTS genre and made it popular. There were other games like it before – Dune, Command & Conquer and Warcraft 1 and 2 of course, but although they were great games for their time they didn’t have that feel that Starcraft brings to the scene. The three unique races, immersive gameplay, breathtaking campaign with ahead of its time cutscenes and voice acting – these are just a few things that made Starcraft so special. It’s safe to say that this is the first E-sport ever (along with Counter Strike maybe).

Original Starcraft

Now Starcraft: Remastered will bring a new life to the all-time classic. The remastered version will bring HD graphics (4K support), revised dialogue and audio to make the experience even more immersive and it will deliver the same gameplay and mechanics as before. The game will also be part of the Blizzard app so matchmaking will be easier and you can chat and play with your Blizzard friends that you play Hearthstone or Diablo or Overwatch with. There is no information about pricing of the remastered version but the original Starcraft and the expansion Brood War will become completely free. That’s right, in preparation for StarCraft: Remastered Blizzard is releasing patch v1.18a (first patch since 2009) that brings some improvements and fixes and makes the game free to play. And as of the remastered version – it is said to launch sometime this summer (boy I remember when Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty launched in July 2010 – I was so hyped).

Starcraft: Remastered

With Starcraft: Remastered you will be able to relive all the epic battles you had with friends at LAN parties or go back in time and reencounter the fights for Aiur where Tassadar gave his life or witness how the Swarm is created but this time in HD. Today RTS games aren’t nearly as popular as they used to be but this refreshed version of the all-time classic could potentially change this. Maybe we can expect a Warcraft 3 remaster too, who knows?

For Aiur!
