Samsung continues to release new and interesting devices on the wearable as the market is still growing and improving. The newest offering from the South Korean manufacturer is Gear S2. The smartwatch has two versions – sport and classic. It would seem that the classic version appeals more to the users since there’s a lot more interest towards it. Due to this, we decided to take a closer look at the capabilities and features of the model with the leather strap. However, before we’re ready with our full review of the device, we’ll share our first impressions of the Gear S2 classic.

The watch screams high-end right from our first encounter. Its housing is made from stainless steel while the leather strap complements the stylish design. The watch also has a secondary metal strap with nine holes for adjusting.

Samsung Gear S2 classic has two physical buttons – back and home, which also opens the app drawer. However, the most interesting component of the watch is the ring that goes around the round screen of the watch. The ribbed, chrome-colored ring, further improves the device’s appearance. Anyway, the design isn’t the only thing to consider here but the concept of using the watch effortlessly despite the small screen. The ring is rotatable and packs tons of features, such as going through the menus, swiping through long texts, controlling the music player, etc.

As with most smartwatches, the Gear S2 classic has a waterproof certificate, but it is only IP68 rated so you can dip it into water up to one and a half meters (about 59 inches) as long as 30 minutes. We haven’t tried this one yet so we’re going to trust Samsung on this one. Another important feature of the device is the heart-rate monitor, located at the back of the device. The watch has a lot of pre-installed applications, most of which also require you to have them on your smartphone when syncing the watch to your mobile device. We’ll include more information about them and all of the other features of Gear S2 classic in our upcoming review.
