Top 5 reasons to BUY or NOT to buy the ASUS ExpertBook P2 (P2451)

When you think of a business laptop, ASUS doesn’t necessarily come up first. The brand is now intertwined with gaming culture thanks to their ROG brand which is one of if not the most popular gaming brands in the entire world. However, today we are talking about something different.

The ExpertBook line offers laptops with lots of features that pack the performance and security that is needed with these types of devices. Yes, it does offer older generation Comet Lake U-series chips and a set of unimpressive UHD graphics, but business notebooks really don’t need to be the best performers.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the ASUS ExpertBook P2 (P2451).

ASUS ExpertBook P2 (P2451): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the ASUS ExpertBook P2 (P2451)

1. Design and build quality

Despite the weak hardware inside, the laptop is built really well, utilizing both metal and plastic. First of all, the construction gets a steel brace, which should improve the flex-resistance quite a lot. The brace is sandwiched between an aluminum lid and a plastic bottom panel, delivering exceptional sturdiness. However, there was still some flexing in the lid and base by themselves. ASUS has taken an industrial approach with the design, with sharp edges and corners. In terms of weight and height, the laptop offers decent portability, weighing only 1.50 kg, while being 19.9 mm tall.

2. Upgradeability

The laptop offers a lot of upgradeability. There are two SODIMM RAM slots, which work in dual-channel, one M.2 PCIe x4 slot, and one 2.5-inch SATA drive bay.

Here is our detailed teardown which shows how to access both the RAM and SSD slots.

3. Battery life

The laptop comes with a 48Wh battery unit, which works well with these power-efficient processors. The battery lasts for 15 hours of Web browsing, and 11 hours and a half of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

4. I/O

The I/O is as wide as it can get. There are a lot of ports, some of which are really interesting to see. On the left side, we have the power plug, an RJ-45 connector, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, one HDMI connector, and a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port. On the right, there is a security slot, a VGA connector, one more USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and one USB Type-A 2.0 port, along with a 3.5 mm audio jack and a MicroSD card reader.

1 reason NOT to buy the ASUS ExpertBook P2 (P2451)

1. Display quality

Our laptop came with a Full HD TN display, which had poor viewing angles, a maximum brightness of 265 nits in the middle of the screen, 236 nits as an average for the entire display area, and a maximum deviation of 18%. The display offers poor luminance in a uniform perspective, which means that the brightness is uneven at different points on the display area. The contrast ratio is quite low, sitting at 320:1. The display only covers 52% of the sRGB gamut.

The color accuracy was off with both the factory settings (left) and with our Design and Gaming (right) profile. Below you can see compare the results of the two.
