ASUS ROG G501 vs ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501: prices, specs and design – what are the differences?

We found ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501 in a Czech store two days ago. At first glance, it looks like an ROG G501 except for the highlights (the ROG series comes in a red-black color combo). Actually, they are almost the same as you can see below. At the moment we’ve found one ROG G501 model in a Bulgarian store and one ZenBook Pro UX501 in a Czech store. The differences between them are the multi-touch screen and the 512 GB SSD, which UX501 offers (we aren’t sure that ASUS won’t come up with HDD-based UX501 configurations, but at this point, we’ve found the model with PCI-e SSD only). This, of course, affects the price.

The price of ROG G501 is 1226 euro, while the ZenBook Pro UX501 costs 1824 euro. In other words, there is a difference of about 600 euro, which is too much. The 512 GB SSD is definitely a pro and the screen also has a multi-touch functionality, but that shouldn’t be a reason for such a high price. The 600 EUR difference makes UX501 more elegant and high-class looking, but a very expensive choice.

    Hi, Hristiyan,

You specify “Display Port 1.1A” for both models. Asus press-release for G501 is listing “1x Thunderbolt” ( http://www.asus.com/us/News/FRJ2IpgxRc656YCn ). Care to comment?

Thank you for the great web site, by the way!

Thunderbolt = Display Port. They’re the same thing, except that Thunderbolt has some other technology allowing you to also connect other devices than displays to it.

hello, as i understood g501 only has hdmi 1.4, which means if i connect the laptop to my 4k(samsung ue65hu7500) i will only be avalible to play 4k videos in 30fps? But i read somewhere that the laptop need to support HDCP 2.2 for it to work with4k videos? how do i know if a laptop supports it?

I really hope they have DP1.2 or TB2 support. Having a 4k display in the notebook and not being able to use 4k@60Hz on an external monitor seems extremely stupid.

Does the UX501 have PWM, which causes flickering, like G501?
