[Comparison] AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS vs Intel Core i7-1280P – The Ryzen’s got some fight left in it

Now, this is a matchup that should intrigue you. The HS series from AMD and the P-series from Intel have been created to tackle heavy work while being as efficient as possible. This is done by lowering the TDP slightly, as the HS series usually has a base wattage of 35W, while the P-series goes even lower, down to 28W. However, with decent cooling, you can go higher. Today we have the latest HS-series CPU from AMD, the Ryzen 7 7735HS, which we’re putting against the Core i7-1280P, a processor that totally put a lot of AMD’s arsenal to shame last year. Will the Ryzen 7 present a new beginning for AMD in 2023, stick with us to find out?

CPU benchmarks

The Core i7 has a small lead in 3D Rendering, being 2% quicker, which is close to negligible. Once we move to 2D Rendering where we see the Intel CPU show its power, being nearly two seconds faster.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

Conclusion

As the Ryzen 7 7735HS is still a Zen 3+ CPU, the result isn’t surprising at all. The Core i7 managed to outperform it in both CPU tests, however, we’d consider the 3D Rendering score to be not that influential, as the Ryzen 7 is very close. When you factor in the Radeon iGPU and how well it does, the result is going to be skewed in AMD’s favor. All in all, you should almost always never pick a laptop based on its CPU, or any part alone for that matter, as everything should work smoothly together to create a package that you can be happy with.
