First impressions of Meizu m2 note – the upcoming leader in the mid-class

fr
We got a hold of Meizu m2 note some time ago and we are ready to share our first impressions of the device, which, by the way, will probably be that this is one of the best devices in the mid-class. The reasons behind this are its capabilities and reasonable price.

Here’s more information about the price and availability: http://amzn.to/1KjwIko

Meizu m2 note is a 5.5-inch smartphone, but due to its narrow bezels, as well as its shape and curved sides it is pretty comfortable to hold with one hand. The surface of the device is both matte and glossy. Fingerprint and smudges aren’t attracted as much, but its back side feels a bit slippery. The phone has an unibody design, as both the back and the battery aren’t removable. Inserting an SIM card is done via a regular pin found in the box that opens the SIM card tray. There is only one SIM card tray in the device, but it contains two nano SIM card slots, along with a microSD card slot. Keep in mind that if you are using a microSD you can have only one SIM card in the device.

A typical feature for the model is the presence of a physical home button. The lack of both sensor buttons (back and multitasking menu) didn’t come as a surprise because of last year’s model. If you press the aforementioned home button, it will take you back to the home screen, however, if you tap it once – it will take you back to the web page, menu etc. In order to view the recent apps menu, you have to slide your finger on the display from the bottom edge. We didn’t have hard time to get used to it, though. The smartphone is also blazingly fast and for the short time that we’ve used the device, we didn’t detect any lag. It seems that the octa-core Mediatek MT6753 SoC, along with the 2GB of RAM, are doing a great job at keeping the performance high. We will find out exactly how fast Meizu m2 is and is it capable of competing against rivaling models after we’ve put the device through our tests and benchmarks.

Everything looks good in the software department as well. The menus and icons have a stylish appearance. The UI has some neat pre-installed apps as well as various useful features. Literally almost any kind of touch, swipe or tap could be assigned to perform a different task. Among the pre-installed apps, we see one for drawing – one for taking notes, one that acts as a firewall for protection against malicious software and many others. The UI of Meizu has also had a positive impact on the camera app. It has various shooting modes, one of which is taking a video in slow-motion and many custom settings on top – shutter speed, ISO, white balance etc. The camera is also capable of taking videos in Full HD resolution so we tested Meizu m2 note’s 13MP camera and took some sample shots. Most of them turned out to be pretty good and we will soon post our article about some of the camera capabilities including the aforementioned sample photos. In-depth analysis of the camera alongside many other results from tests, benchmarks etc. will be available in our full review of the device. One of the things that we’ll pay the highest attention to is the display, since it’s a 5.5-inch IGZO screen with Full HD resolution. We expect relatively low energy consumption from it and keeping in mind that the device boasts a big 3100 mAh battery we have high hopes for the battery life.
