Quick look at Lenovo Vibe K5 – first impressions, camera, performance

A while ago we presented to you our review of Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus which is one attractive mid-ranger. And now there is another version of this phone available on the market – it is named Vibe K5. Actually, the differences between the two are not so many, but still the device that shall be in our focus today is more affordable.

The first thing that caught our attention was the bumper case included in the box. It is transparent and although it may make you device a tad thicker, it will serve as good protection. Other than that, K5’s design is not much different from that of the Plus version which is great news. The chassis is made of metal and the profile is 8 mm thick, while the phone weighs 142 grams. Additionally, the back does not retain fingerprints but we find the surface somewhat slippery. Despite this, the 5-inch display and slightly chamfered edges contribute to the relatively comfortable grip and operation with a single hand. The back is easily removable  and under it you can find two microSIM card slots and a dedicated microSD card slot.

Another difference between K5 and its Plus version is that K5 offers HD resolution and not Full HD. However, it will be hard to notice this, especially in a 5-incher. Perhaps, more important here is the presence of an IPS panel that provides bright and contrasty colors, along with wider viewing angles.

This smartphone features Android 5.1 Lollipop combined with Lenovo’s UI. The latter brings changes in the design of menus but this time it does not offer a lot of additional functions and modes. Nonetheless, you can find a good number of pre-isntalled apps that are part of pretty much every Lenovo smartphone on the market.

We would like to say a few words about the camera of this model. At first sight it doesn’t seem different from that of the Plus version. It is 13MP with autofocus and an LED flash. Furthermore, it has Full HD video recording and offers several modes and settings. You will learn more about them in our upcoming menu, and now you can have a look at some testshots.

Vibe K5 is powered by a Snapdragon 415 mobile CPU. It boasts eight Cortex-A53 cores, ticking up to 1.4 GHz. We will check if the chip leads to temperature increase after continuous load, and see how it performs in different benchmarks. We have already managed to check the computing and graphic performance and will soon finish the remaining tests so that we may compare this phone to its competitors.
