Quick look at Sony Xperia XA – first impressions, camera, performance

During MWC 2016 in Barcelona earlier this year, we presented to you several new Sony models that were announced – Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia XA. The latter is now in our hands and before the publication of our detailed review, we want to share our first impressions.

If you want to learn more about Sony Xperia XA’s price and availability, you can visit the following link: http://amzn.to/29PlHyU

Xperia XA is the most affordable of the three models, even though its price positions it as one of the most expensive mid-rangers. Perhaps, the phone’s design is its key advantage, as it’s awesome. The first thing which is likely to catch your eye is the incredibly thin and attractive frame – the profile thickness is only 7.9 mm, and the phone weighs only 137 grams. Additionally, the lining that goes around the chassis is made of metal, while the back – of plastic. Fingerprints are only visible from a particular perspective, at least this is the case with our rose gold version. Actually, the color, too, contributes to the stylish looks. Also available is a hardware camera button, while the SIM and microSD card slots are located in the upper left corner and are covered by a cap.

Xperia XA features a 5-inch display and working with one hand is comfortable chiefly because of the extremely thin profile. The screen resolution is 1280 x 720 p, and the pixel density – 294 ppi. Also, your display will be protected by a scratch resistant finish. As far as battery is concerned, you get 2300 mAh which doesn’t sound like a lot, but we shall check its durability in our tests.

We will be glad to test the available Helio P10 mobile CPU by MediaTek, which features eight Cortex-A53 cores ticking up to 2.0 GHz. They are complemented by a Mali-T860 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. Additionally, this Xperia model comes with 16 GB of internal storage, half of which is occupied by system files and pre-installed apps.

Xperia XA uses Android 6.0 Marshmallow customized by Sony’s UI that brings changes in both features and design. The dropdown menu has not been changed, but the settings menu now has color icons. You can also expect a good number of pre-installed apps.

Taking a look at the back, you will see a 13MP camera with 1/3“ Exmor RS, autofocus and LED flash. It is capable of Full HD video recording and also has a feature-rich menu with various settings and modes for more attractive photos. Furthermore, there is an 8MP front-facing camera that also features intriguing options and Full HD video recording.
