Lenovo V15 Gen 4 review – is AMD the way to go?

Design and construction

Unsurprisingly, this machine is entirely made out of plastic. There is a texture-like finish on top. In addition, we see almost no structural support on the inside, which makes the device pretty flexy.

On the bright side, the lack of metal parts means that the laptop is pretty light. It only weighs 1.65 kg. In terms of thickness, it is a bit more standard – 19.9mm. By the way, the keyboard deck is also fairly bendy.

Well, the lid can’t be opened with one hand. However, the fairly slim bezels all around the matte display definitely make the device appear more modern. Furthermore, there is an HD Web camera and a privacy shutter up top.

As we said, the keyboard deck is not very resilient. However, the typing experience is pretty good. Plus, there is a NumberPad section on the right. Surely, there is no backlight, but we don’t expect anything else at this price point. Thankfully, it is spill-resistant.

Although the touchpad is not very large with its 62 by 104 mm dimensions, we find it extremely accurate and responsive. It will even let you click its entire surface area.

Moving to the bottom panel, we see two speaker cutouts, as well as a ventilation grill. Hot air, respectively, gets exhausted through a vent located in between the base and the lid.

Ports

On the left side, there is the power plug, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, an HDMI 1.4b connector, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port with 20V Power Delivery and DisplayPort capability, as well as an Audio jack. Then, on the right, you get a Kensington Nano lock slot, a LAN port, and a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port.

Mon vieux Lenovo passé sous Linux me manque…

Read more »
