MSI Summit E14 Flip Evo (A13M) review – hunting for Yogas

Verdict

The MSI Summit E14 Flip Evo (A13M) is the worst nightmare of the Lenovo Yoga 9 (14″, 2023). The MSI laptop has a great all-metal build that is sturdy no matter in which mode you are using the device – clamshell,  stand, tent, or tablet. The lid is also stable.

The touchscreen IPS display (AUO B140QAN04.R (AUO7F9A)) is the main event here. It has a 2880 x 1800 resolution and it boasts 100% sRGB and 99% DCI-P3 color coverage. Thanks to our Design and Gaming profile, the color accuracy is reaching an average dE value of just 1.4 which is a respectable result (with the default display settings the score is 4.3).

The panel is PWM-free so you can use it for long hours of work without feeling the negative effects of the display flicker (which is non-existing here). Working with the MSI Pen is a joy, it glides smoothly, and using it feels convenient after a minute or two. The sound quality is also very good and all tones are clear of deviations

The device is a universal machine for work and fun not just because of its transforming abilities but also thanks to its great performance. The CPU can maintain high P and E cores clock alongside hefty power limits. So you can enjoy the full power of the Intel Core i7-1360p regardless of what you are doing in front of the screen.

The cooling solution comprises one fan and three heat pipes and it’s doing a great job even when the processor is pounded with heavy tasks. Curiously, the fan isn’t too loud even when it’s forced to rotate at its maximum speed which speaks of top quality. The laptop is near-quiet in idle and short loads but if you want your laptop to be as silent as possible, you can tune a desirable custom fan speed or just use the Silent Mode that can be found in the MSI Center app which is full of useful options.

The used NVMe in our device (the 1TB Samsung PM9A1 1TB M.2 PCIe (MZVL21T0HCLR-00B00)) is showing good scores in Crystal Disk Mark and AS SSD benchmark. This also contributes to fast boot times and great system snappiness when working with small files and regular applications on a daily basis.

The single-color backlit keyboard has a surprisingly long key travel and the feedback is clicky – that’s why the board is comfortable for long our of typing and maybe gaming. Well, it’s not a gaming device but titles like CS:GO and Dota 2 are not a problem for the iGPU. In CS:GO, the integrated graphics can show 96FPS on average on Max details which is enough for some gaming after work. Aside from that, the touchpad is nothing but awesome – it’s ridiculously smooth and accurate.

The memory is soldered but the maximum amount of RAM is 32GB of LPDDR5-4800MHz in dual-channel mode and that seems future-proof. For storage, there is just one M.2 slot for Gen 4 SSDs but at least you can use fast NVMes like the one that can be found in our machine. The I/O is modern – two Thunderbolt 4 ports with Display Port and 100W charging capabilities, HDMI 2.1, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, an E-shutter switch, and a MicroSD card reader. The battery life is also a nice surprise despite the thirsty Intel chip under the bonnet – 14 hours and 17 minutes of Web browsing or 10 hours of video playback!

The MSI Summit E14 Flip Evo (A13M) amazes us with its great performance, capable cooling solution, metal build, and color-accurate IPS touchscreen display. The comfortable keyboard and the accurate touchpad are also contributing to the overall positive impression.

Thanks for the review!

From the look of the hinge design and the vents location, I assume this laptop disperses warm/hot air directly on to the display?

Did you notice if that was much of an issue?

Cheers

i7-1360P has Iris Xe with 96EUs.
The graphics score in Time Spy is an Iris Xe with 96EUs, the versions with 80EUs don’t reach that mark.
In the GPUz image it shows 80EUs…
Something very strange is happening…
