While CPU comparisons are the most predominant ones that we do here, we cant leave the GPUs unattended, since they also have the stuff to show. The new RTX 3000-series Ampere GPUs have either hit the market or are going to in some time.

The one card that we believe encompasses both the performance and the price, is the RTX 3070 (Laptop), with it taking the #5 spot in our Top Laptop Graphics Ranking.

It was only a matter of time before we compared it with its predecessor, the RTX 2070 (Laptop), to see how big is the performance gap and if it is worth it to go for the new one or buy the RTX 2070 (Laptop), which will be getting cheaper as the RTX 3070 (Laptop) gets more readily available.

GPU benchmarks

We recorded a better performance from the RTX 3070 (Laptop) across all of our tests and benchmarks. To go into detail, the RTX 3070 (Laptop) scored 6% higher in 3DMark Fire Strike, 5% higher in Unigine Heaven 4.0, and 13% higher in Unigine Superposition. All in all the RTX 3070 (Laptop) is better, but not buy a lot so a direct upgrade from the RTX 2070 (Laptop) to the RTX 3070 (Laptop) is out of the question.

Conclusion

The results from above showed that even though it has a much lower TGP, the RTX 3070 (Laptop, 85W) is on average 8% better across all of our benchmarks. However, the increase here isn’t as big so if you already have an RTX 2070 (Laptop), upgrading to a laptop with an 85W variant of the RTX 3070 wouldn’t make sense at all. Also, devices with the RTX 2070 (Laptop) would get cheaper now that ones with the RTX 3070 (Laptop) enter the market, so you can get quite a powerful gaming laptop for a great deal. Or just wait for the more powerful 115-125W 3070s.
