First impressions of Acer Aspire F5-572G – daily driver with refreshing new look

Acer has been pushing the lower-end segment of the market for quite some time and in the recent years, the company has been unveiling high-end laptops as well. With the new Aspire F15 lineup aimed at everyday working, the company proves that it hasn’t forgotten its roots. The new Aspire F5-572G is a refreshing new addition in the lower-mid-range segment that focuses mainly on design and input devices. Here are our initial thoughts on the product.

Design

Acer strongly emphasizes on the design front with the new Aspire F5. The laptop adopts a similar plastic with interesting texture, which we already saw in the lower-end Aspire E5 notebooks. It ships in different colors, but the one we got now is in red. The feel on the surface might not appeal to most, but it’s definitely something new – it’s kind of like denim.

Anyway, the notebook weighs around 2.4 kg and it’s about 27 mm thick. It looks like the Aspire F5 isn’t the best choice if you are looking for portability, but it compensates with excellent input devices. The keyboard is full-sized with good key spacing, ergonomics and enough key travel. Also, the touchpad is enormous and feels really nice. So while the laptop isn’t very portable, it sure does bring the comfort of a desktop-like experience everywhere.

Moreover, the interior around the keyboard adopts aluminum-like finish. We really can’t put our finger on it, but it sure does feel like the real deal. Unfortunately, though the surface attracts smudges pretty easily so it will require frequent cleaning.

Hardware

And here’s another department in which the Aspire F5 excels. The laptop boasts some pretty good specs for a starting price of around $550. Currently the notebook ships with two CPUs – Core i7-6500U or Core i5-6200U, both of which come paired with NVIDIA GeForce 940M GPU and, at least, 8GB of RAM. There are also options excluding the discrete graphics and rely on the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520.

Storage options aren’t a lot too – you can only for the 1TB HDD. Anyway, the laptop comes with Full HD display as a standard using the TN technology and it would be a blast to see a variant with IPS panel. This will surely bring the cost of the laptop by a margin, but some users will happily pay for it. Unfortunately, the battery is again pretty small – 37Wh and we doubt it will go for too long, especially when you add the discrete GPU in the mix. We will run our usual tests, of course, and see if this is true.

How it looks on the inside

Quite acceptable for a lower-end laptop, the machine offers only the stock 2.5-inch HDD and two RAM slots, one of which is taken by an 8GB DDR3L SDRAM chip. You can visit our full article on the matter here.
