日本How to open ASUS ROG Strix G18 (G814, 2023) – disassembly and upgrade options
In 2023, most gaming laptops in the mid to high tier offer pretty similar upgrade options. Thankfully, this means that the ROG Strix G18 (G814, 2023) offers two SODIMM slots for DDR5 RAM and two M.2 PCIe x4 storage slots for Gen 4 SSDs. Take a look at how to access its internals.

1. Remove the bottom plate
To open this machine, you need to undo 11 Phillips-head screws. The one in the bottom right corner is captive and lifts the edge of the panel so you can start the prying process from there.
2. Remove the battery
Inside, we find a 90Wh battery pack. To take it out, you first need to remove the chassis fan. It is held in place by two Phillips-head screws. Then, unplug the connectors of the fan and the battery from the motherboard and undo the four Phillips-head screws, holding the battery to the device.
3. Upgrade memory and storage
Memory-wise, you get two SODIMM slots, which work with DDR5 RAM. As for storage, there are two M.2 PCIe x4 slots. They support both Gen 3 and Gen 4 SSDs.
4. Cooling system
In terms of cooling, you get two heat pipes shared between the CPU and the GPU with one more dedicated to each of them. In addition, you get one heat pipe for the graphics memory and one for the VRMs. Three fans blow the heat away from the chassis, while five heat sinks dissipate the heat.
