ASUS FX502VM’s price slashed by almost 30% – GTX 1060 laptop for just $900!

We have some amazing news for you if you happen to be looking for a new gaming notebook. We are referring to the ASUS FX502VM. Although ASUS hasn’t branded it as a ROG device, FX502VM is equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU and a powerful Core i5 HQ processor which makes it quite capable.

You can check our detailed review of the ASUS FX502VM over here: http://laptopmedia.com/review/asus-fx502vm-review-an-outcast-republic-of-gamers-laptop/

It is the third time around that we catch this bad boy on sale. It seems that ASUS occasionally drops the price of the FX502VM making it a great deal. Maybe they have too many units in stock or maybe the fact that it is getting a little bit outdated also plays a role. As we said, the FX502VM is a gaming notebook featuring the GTX 1060 that you can purchase for the price of a GTX 1050 Ti notebook. This time around the price is reduced by almost 30% – 28% to be exact – and it sales for just $904.99.

We mentioned the word “outdated” above. By it, we mean that it’s not equipped with the latest and greatest hardware available not that it isn’t powerful enough. It features a quad-core 6th gen Haswell Intel Core i5-6300HQ (2.30 GHz- 3.20 GHz, 6MB) which is now two generations behind the latest 8th gen. However, it features a GTX 10 series GPU and not just any GPU – the GTX 1060. The model of the GPU used is the one with only 3 GB of GDDR5 memory but we have compared the FX502VM with a notebook featuring the 6 GB version and the difference is very small.

For the price of just above $900, you get 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and 1 TB HDD spinning at 7200 rpm with Windows 10 pre-installed. The 15.6-inch display has Full HD (1920 x 1080p) resolution but unfortunately, the panel is TN. However, it is PWM free which is something rare in budget notebooks.The FX502VM has the now standard dual-band Wi-Fi ac but lacks the common USB Type-C port that we find in new models.

One great aspect of the FX502VM is how thin and light it is. With a profile of just 24.5 mm (0.96″) and weight of 2.515 kg (5.54 lbs), it is an easy to carry the notebook.

While the FX502VM doesn’t pack the latest and greatest hardware and has its flaws, it can easily outperform most any competitor in its price range. Overall, it is a great solution if you are looking for a gaming notebook but you are on a budget.

I agree with you on this 100% however I’ve just ordered a FX502VM-AS73 with the 7th gen i7-7700HQ (4core/8threads), 128GB SSD + 1GB mechanical hdd. Right now they’re going for $1209.00 however I’ve ordered one with a status of “Used – Like New, Item is in original, pristine packaging.” for a total of $1035. So for $130 more, you get one gen higher CPU and in the i7-7700HQ model with true quad core and 8threads plus 128GB SSD in addition to the 1TB slow clanker hdd’s. One thing I’d like to know more about is the drive expansion interface…do you… Read more »

Most probably yes. All motherboards from the Kaby Lake generation support the PCIe NVMe standard natively. It might take some BIOS tweaking, though.

I have confirmed that it does too. I just got my laptop delivered, the FX502VM-AS73. I have not installed an NVMe drive yet but will if I decide to keep it. Here’s my own little review: This laptop is huge, and much heavier than I was expecting. It must be my biased opinion since I’m coming from an Asus K501UW which is about 4.4 lbs. The FX502 specs give 4.9 lbs however I think this has to be wrong since it feels at least 3 pounds more heavy. The FX is also .5″ wider as well with the same screen… Read more »
