Lenovo Yoga 7i (14″, 2023) review – capable and stable convertible

Design and construction

As usual, the build quality on the Yoga 7i (14″, 2023) is great. It is made out of aluminum for both the lid and the base. This gives it decent rigidity, although the base shows some flex when we twist it.

In terms of dimensions, we are talking about a thickness of 16.5mm. At the same time, the weight depends on the display – machines with an IPS panel weigh 1.55 kg, while OLED units are lighter – 1.49 kg. By the way, this time, Lenovo has decided to make the edges of this device rounded, which is more in line with the current trends on the market.

Here, the lid can be opened with one hand, but as soon as you get near 90° the hinges stiffen, and the base lifts from the ground. This is nothing uncommon for convertibles, so there’s no reason to be disappointed. Other than that, the bezels around the display are generally thin, with the top one housing a Full HD Web camera with a privacy shutter, and an IR face recognition scanner.

Moving to the base, we see two speaker grills. The 2W runners surround the keyboard. It has decent key travel and clicky feedback. The only disadvantage we found is the size of the “Up” and “Down” Arrow keys. As you can see, there is no power button around it, as it is located on the right side of the device.

As for the touchpad – it is quite big – 75 x 120 mm. Thanks to its glass-like Mylar surface, you get a very smooth gliding experience, while the tracking is pretty fast and accurate. However, its topmost part cannot be clicked.

Since there are no speakers at the bottom plate, there you will only find the ventilation grill. Hot air, respectively, is exhausted through a vent on the back of the base.

Ports

On the left side, there is an HDMI 1.4b connector, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and an Audio jack. Then, on the right, there is a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port and a MicroSD card slot.
