ASUS ZenFone Max preview – sleek appearance, 13MP camera and 5000 mAh battery

ASUS has been releasing some pretty neat smartphone offerings and one of the newest has caught our eye. We’re talking about ZenFone Max that has a large screen combined with a huge 5000 mAh battery and some other impressive features. Since we don’t currently have the device with us, we’re just going to go quickly over some of its specs and features, but you can expect a full in-depth review as soon as we get our hands on it.

Zen Fone Max’s battery is without a doubt the most impressive feature of the phone in contrast to most of the competition out there. Its capacity is the whopping 5000 mAh and saying that this is impressive would be an understatement. We’ll make sure to put it through our tests to see exactly how long-lasting it is, but according to the manufacturer it should provide around 38 hours in standby, up to 32.5 hours of Wi-Fi web browsing, up to 72.9 hours of music playback and up to 22.6 hours of video playback. The best part, however, is that the device can charge other devices using the integrated battery as a power source.

Anyway, the screen of ZenFone Max measures at 5.5-inch and its resolution is HD (1280 x 720). The IPS panel and ASUS’s TrueVivid technology provide bright and vivid colors while the Gorilla Glass 4 coating protects it from cracks and scratches.

13MP camera and ZenUI

The rear camera of the phone is unusual for the mid-range class as well. The device has a 13MP shooter with double LED flash and laser autofocus, which is capable of locking focus in just 0.03 seconds. The camera sensor is manufactured by Toshiba and has f/2.0 aperture, which helps for better photos in low-light conditions, especially when you have the Backlight (HDR) mode on. There are also a lot of manual settings and shooting modes in the camera menu that help you make the most out of any situation. ZenFone Max also has a 5MP front-facing camera with Beauty mode capable of taking panorama selfies.

Even though the phone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, you will not be disappointed in its software capabilities. On top of the OS ASUS has added the so-called ZenUI, which is famous for the large variety of pre-installed apps and features as well as the gesture control options. Some of the available modes in ZenUI are Kids mode, Easy mode and Power Saving mode.

Sleek design and Snapdragon 410

ASUS ZenFone Max isn’t among the thinnest of phones currently on the market since it measures at 10.55 mm. However, thanks to its curved edges, it feels way slimmer than it actually is. The phone also has an impressive appearance with textured back cover from faux leather and gold strip surrounding the phone and successfully imitating metal. The latter adds a bit of a premium look to this already sleek-looking device.

The SoC found in ZenFone Max is Snapdragon 410 – the mobile chip boasts four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.2 GHz, integrates the Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Also, the phone has 16GB of internal storage, but if you feel that it isn’t enough, you can always expand it with up to 64G with the microSD memory card slot.
