First impressions of GSmart Classic – 5-inch IPS HD display, 8MP camera and Android 5.1 at a very low price

Today we are going to share our first impressions of the GSmart Classic smartphone regardless of the short time we’ve been using it. It should be noted that the device boasts an impressive specs sheet considering its low price.

The first thing you’ll notice when holding the device is the interesting texture on its back cover. It feels rugged providing a secure grip even when your hands are wet. Its appearance is unique and it has some sort of a glittering effect. When it’s subjected to light – it reflects and looks quite interesting. We can’t decide if this is a positive side or a drawback because it’s a matter of preference. You shouldn’t worry about those nasty fingerprints and smudges, though. Anyway, the front side of the device is as classic as it can get. Perhaps the space below the screen, where the three sensor Android buttons reside, is a bit too large but this is a common occurrence in the budged-class. The 5-inch screen in combination with the very thin profile (only 8.6 mm) provide a comfortable and secure grip.

Another positive side of the phone is the version of Android – Android 5.1 Lollipop. While playing around in the menus we found a couple of pre-installed apps like Battery Doctor, Clean Master, CM Security, WPS office etc. You will probably find use for most of them and even if you don’t, Google Play store is here to provide you with countless options for entertainment, productivity etc. it should also be noted that the appearance is almost identical to that of the classic Android version.

In our upcoming review, we’re going to put the device’s display through our tests, but our first impressions of it are very positive, кeeping in mind that such a budged device boasts a 5-inch screen with HD (720 x 1280) resolution. Moreover, the screen uses an IPS panel, which as we all know provides rich and vivid colors, high brightness and contrast ratio, and wide viewing angles. The main camera of GSmart Classic is 8MP, which is great, but we shouldn’t expect miracles from it. Judging by the sample shots we took with it, we can say that it provides mediocre picture quality. The sample picture and the results from our in-depth camera tests will be available in the review. For now we’re skipping the battery tests, even though the phone boasts a 2000 mAh battery because the model we have is a sample and we fear that the results may not be accurate. We’re going to try and get our hands on a final production unit and share the results.
