Gaming benchmarks of the mobile GeForce GTX 1070 give us hope of 4K gaming on laptops

As we promised, here’s how the mobile GTX 1070 scores on some of the most popular games. We were able to run the benchmarks in 1080p and 2160p resolution and as you can see, with a bit lowered settings the GPU can handle serious 4K gaming. Something that even last year’s GTX 980M couldn’t handle. Thus, all 4K-equipped laptops until now were a bit of a gimmick. Unless you are playing at least a 2 or 3-year old game on UHD resolution.

However, the GTX 1070 goes even further by almost matching the performance of the desktop GTX 1070 and surpassing the GTX 980 for notebooks, which we tested on the Acer Predator 17X. Even though the notebook we are currently testing is just a pre-production sample, it’s clear that all that power can overtake last year’s most powerful GPUs in the 1080p gaming with settings set to the highest. It’s also easy to assume that the GPU will run slightly better when it hits the market and it’s ready for the end user. For now, bask in the glory of GTX 1070 with these gaming tests in 4K and Full HD.

Which laptop is that? Or are you just testing an MXM 1070 on an already released laptop?

Thank you for the test results. Could you also benchmark GTX 1070 for 10-bit HEVC video playback and check if it’s hardware accelerated (Skylake has only 8-bit HEVC hardware decoding)? Also, does GTX 1070 it support external DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 connection (instead of old DP 1.2a)?

Think it’s just because it is the only gtx so far. They want people who really want it to pay a premium.
