Today’s comparison will be between two mid-range CPUs – Core i5-1035G1 and Intel Core i3-1005G1. They are not the fastest but a laptop configured with them will not cost that much compared to the ones with i7s.

The iGPUs of both CPUs are the same and it will be interesting to see how the Core i3-1005G1 will perform when it comes to heavy graphics load.

Intel is asking $297.00 for i5-1035G1 and $281.00 for Core i3-1005G1. There is only a 5% price difference – hm, this makes our choice easier but let’s continue.

Core i5-1035G1 is a 4-core 8-thread CPU, while i3-1005G1 is a 2-core 4-thread one. As for the frequencies, the i5-1035G1 has 1.00 GHz/3.60 GHz base and boost clocks and we have 1.20 GHz – 3.40 GHz base/boost for i3-1005G1. The i5-1035G1 has a 2MB bigger cache size (6MB to 4MB). Both CPUs have the same memory supported frequencies, almost the TDP levels, and they both have Intel UHD G1 with 32 EUs.

Our two contenders have the same iGPU – Intel UHD G1 but as you can see it performs differently in Dell Inspiron 3793 and Acer Swift 3 (SF314-57). This time the Core i3-1005G1 is taking the lead with its UHD G1 – 13% better score.

Verdict

The benchmarks show us the truth – i5-1035G1 is much faster than i3-1005G1. On top of that, the i5-1035G1 is just 5% more expensive than the little one. The i5-1035G1 will be much faster in every task – Web browsing, watching videos, editing documents, editing photos, you name it. There is no point to prefer the i5-1035G1 over its smaller rival.

The i3-1005G1 has some better GPU performance no matter it has the same iGPU like its bigger brother. Maybe this is due to the cooling solutions in Dell Inspiron 3793 and Acer Swift 3 (SF314-57). Despite that, the Core i5-1035G1 is the better deal here.
