As we saw a little while ago, the full-blown version of the GTX 1660 Ti had a similar performance to the RTX 2060. It was even able to beat it in a couple of instances. With the release of the Max-Q version of the very same graphics card, many of us were wondering – how is it going to stack against the RTX 2060, itself. More precisely, is the difference going to be huge, or the energy efficient GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q is actually going to produce some surprising results?

Specs overview

Either of the GPUs we are comparing today is part of the newest Turing family from NVIDIA. However, the major difference between the two is that the RTX 2060 has dedicated RT processing units, whereas the GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q doesn’t have. So, apart from that, the GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q has fewer CUDA cores – 1536 vs 1920, although its clock speed is higher – 1140-1335 MHz vs 960-1200 MHz. Additionally, the Max-Q GPU uses a lot less power – 60W vs 90W.

Despite the fact that both of the graphics cards have 192-bit 6GB of GDDR6 memory, there is a huge advantage for the RTX 2060 in terms of Bandwidth – 336 GB/s vs 192 GB/s for the RTX 1660 Ti Max-Q.

According to the raw benchmarks, the difference between the two is more than 10% in favor of the RTX 2060.

While the results in game benchmarks solidified the win for the RTX 2060, the difference between the two is not exceeding 10%.

Conclusion

Rendering a video, gaming and 3D modeling is all going to be better on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060. Especially, in ray-tracing enabled games that we are expecting in the near future. Even though the GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q has a higher clock speed and a very good efficiency, sadly it was no match for its competitor.
