We recently got our hands on Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and even though the phone’s price isn’t as attractive, its capabilities and features, as well as unique and appealing design, make up for that. We have already started testing the device, but before we have our results and post our in-depth review, we can share our first impressions of the model.

When one talks about the Galaxy S6 edge+, there is no way to ignore its design. The device has a unique appearance, premium build quality, big 5.7-inch screen and most importantly it is curved on both, the left, and right side. These curves not only make it more attractive but also create the sensations as if the screen is protruding. The side bezels, on the other hand, are nearly unnoticeable. However, Samsung has taken into account that holding a device with curved screen edges may cause unintentional taps, swiped and presses and they have purposely made it small enough to allow the users to comfortably hold the phone, without touching the sides of the screen. We aren’t saying that this isn’t impossible, just that we don’t consider it as an issue. The phone is only 6.9 mm thick but feels even thinner again thanks to the aforementioned curved edges. The protruding rear camera, however, isn’t included in that value. Anyway, the device is relatively comfortable to hold with one hand, well at least compared to other 5.7-inch smartphones. Don’t expect your thumb to be able to reach the across the whole display.

As we mentioned earlier, the construction is made completely out of premium materials and the appearance of the phone is exactly how a top-tier device should look like. An aluminum strip goes around the sides of the body, while the back of the device is made of reinforced glass in order to offer some protection against cracks and scratches. Nonetheless, we don’t intend to test how durable it is and we’re handling the Galaxy S6 edge+ with care. Sadly, except for being very attractive the back of the phone is a magnet for nasty smudges and fingerprints, but at least they’re relatively easy to clean up.

You can expect only the best from Samsung when it comes to software. There are many neat features, useful pre-installed applications, as well as helpful modes. For example, two battery saving modes are available for improving battery life when needed and there are also a couple of gesture functions to help you easily complete certain tasks. Among the software capabilities of the model we can add those of the curved edges of the screen. You can open a “side” menu to get quick access to preset apps and settings menu, by swiping. Other related options and tasks include time, date, battery charge and missed notifications, without having the main display to be turned on. We will take a deeper look at all the software features which the device has to offer in our upcoming review.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ has an impressive specs sheet including a Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution, octa-core Exynos 7429 CPU with Mali-T760MP8 GPU and 4GB of RAM and 16MP rear camera that packs a lot of interesting shooting modes, manual settings and the ability of shooting videos in UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.
