ASUS has been on the top of the pyramid, when it comes to gaming laptops, with their Republic of Gamers brand, being the most recognizable gaming logo and brand in the world. The ROG name has become the halo of ASUS with their newest Strix SCAR 17 and Strix SCAR 17 being the most recent flagship devices from the Taiwanese brand.

They feature premium build quality, along with a wide selection of displays, and not to forget the beastly specs of the AMD Ryzen 5000-series and NVIDIA Ampere GPUs.

The ROG Strix SCAR 15 will be available for purchase sometime in mid-Q1 2021 priced at €1,499 (US$1,825). As for the Strix SCAR 17, we have no information as of this moment.

Design

The design on both devices is quite identical, with metal being used for the outer body, lid, and base of the keyboard. The metal body gives the laptops great durability and sturdiness, which is needed for a device of this caliber. Both devices are quite heavy, with the SCAR 17 being half a kilogram heavier than its smaller sibling, meaning the smaller SCAR 15 will be easier o carry around.

The design itself is quite interesting, with a colored patch with a debossed ROG logo on the outer corner, along with an off-centered ROG logo and lettering on the lid, which spices up the black outer shell. Talking about spice, we have to mention the RGB lighting on the base of the device along with the backside, behind the lid.

Display

For the displays, ASUS has given the SCAR 17 three 17.3-inch IPS options for screens, with two Full HD panels, that come in either 300Hz or 360Hz refresh rate. The final option is a QHD screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, which leans more on the creativity and productivity side. For the smaller SCAR 15, you get to choose between two of the displays that we mentioned above, leaving the Full HD 360Hz panel behind.

Both the SCAR 15 and SCAR 17 get CPUs from the Ryzen 5000-series from AMD with the Ryzen 9 5900HX, being the most powerful option. On the SCAR 15, you have an even larger selection of two Ryzen 7 processors. For the graphics, you can get all three of the Ampere GPUs from NVIDIA’s RTX 3000-series.
